11/19/11- Paula's Eating/Exercise Journal: Saturday

There is a healthy way to lose weight without starving yourself.  The key to losing fat instead of muscle is to keep a balance between weight training, cardiovascular training, and a clean eating diet filled with lean protein, whole grain carbohydrates, low-fat dairy, loads of vegetables and water.

When I hear people praising HCG as a “solution” for weight issues I want to scream (and usually do).  How can any doctor justify giving a patient pregnancy mimicking hormones, and advising them to eat 500 calories per day and consider that healthy living?!!!  Starving yourself with a calorie-restrictive diet, keeps your body from developing lean-muscle mass because your body will burn muscle as a means of survival.  You may physically “lose-weight” on a scale, but your body composition suffers, and you will gain the weight back when you begin to eat normal food again.  You need to evaluate your ‘normal-food’ choices.

Over-doing exercise, or using radical food programs,  is not a long-term solution.  The more energy you burn (through exercise) the more calories you attain from exercise will provide support for your muscular system.

In other words, you’ll just look and feel better.
